Beginning in July 2020, Massican spent the pandemic year creating a lifestyle magazine in partnership with book publisher, Phaidon Press (you can check out those stories in the muses section of our website). The magazine’s topics ranged from art, design, and photography to culinary and travel; all of which allowed us to escape into aspirational experiences, without venturing from the safety of our homes. We heard from legendary Chefs Massimo Bottura and Ferran Adria, iconic editor Anna Wintour, and paradigm-shifting designer Jony Ives. As we embark on year 2 of the Magazine, we are going to explore the issues that matter today and take a look at the organizations and the people who are creating change.
Why would a winery launch a newsmagazine?
In the first year of Massican Magazine, every word and every picture was something we wanted to read, see or experience while drinking a glass of wine. As we think about the current issues that matter today - diversity, inequality, politics, environment, climate, food systems, healthcare - these are the topics that we discuss at the dinner table after we had a glass or two of wine. Year two of the Magazine published here on Substack is an opportunity to explore these issues as part of our conversations over wine.
